Photography at my local patch in Essex

Having just got back from running a photography workshop on the Dorset coast I was keen to see if any new wildlife had arrived on the estuary near my home.  It's a bit early for winter migrants to be arriving but there's normally something to see.   As I walked around the edges of the small lagoons there were the normal Mallards, Coots and Mute Swans, all of which make great subjects in their own right.  However a little further on there were five or six young Bar-Tailed Godwits.   I spent a very enjoyable hour or so photographing these birds feeding in shallow water.   I think the best image was an action shot of one of the birds taking off.   It just goes to show that you don't have travel too far from home to get a good photo opportunity.
