          Chelmer Valley Photography Course

Dates for 2012:Saturday 03-03-12, Saturday 30-06-12

This one-day photography workshop features one of the most beautiful stretches of countryside we have in Essex.
Yes, Essex believe it or not!  There are many locations to explore from the tidal Heybridge Basin in the east to Cutons
Lock in the west.  All students will receive a full set of illustrated and detailed notes that cover what you have learnt.

The Chelmer and Blackwater navigational canal (to give it the correct title) is probably my favourite part of Essex.  It's a real gem of a location.

The subjects available to be photographed are truly varied.  Moored at Heybridge Basin, expensive yachts abound. The historical town of Maldon is next on the list with it's traditional Thames barges and delightful river front.

As we move west the locations change from coastal estuary to river and canal.
There are many weirs and locks along this fourteen mile stretch of canal and river. Each one has it's own particular charm and photographic potential.

The workshops run throughout the year. Each season brings a welcome change to the landscape.

The Chelmer valley as it's often known has a relaxed feel to it which suits the course perfectly. I really think students learn more in a relaxed environment with like-minded individuals.

This full-day course is limited to a maximum of five people. This means  I can treat everyone as an individual and tailor the days' content to each person.  All levels of ability are catered for.

The limited numbers also make teaching a mixed ability group a fairly easy task.

There is of course some walking involved although it's along some fairly gentle terrain.  Even so, a reasonable level of fitness is required.

 Course includes

Developing the photographer's eye

Creative use of shutter speeds

Creative use of aperture (controlling depth of field)

Camera controls (accessing functions via the menu or command dials)

Controlling exposure (including accessing exposure histogram)

Understanding and using light and colour

White balance and it's creative use

The cost of the course is £65.00 which also includes a full set of notes relevant to the important subjects covered during the day.

I normally suggest that students bring a packed lunch because this saves time waiting for lunch to be served; leaving more time for photography which is proving very popular!
