Time-lapse Photography Course
Time-lapse photography is a fantastically creative way to showcase the world around us. It involves taking a sequence of still photographs over a set time period and then putting all the stills together in the form of a short video clip.
Whether it is people going about their business at a seemingly breakneck speed, clouds zooming across the sky as it they’re on steroids, a sunrise compressed into a few seconds of video; time lapse photography shows the world in a completely different way.
The great thing about time lapse photography is that you don’t need to buy loads of expensive kit. A basic DSLR or mirrorless camera will be absolutely fine along with your normal kit lens and a tripod. The only other piece of kit required is an interval timer. Many models of camera already have an interval timer built in. If your camera does not have this, a remote release with interval timer can be bought for a just few pounds.
You will also need a basic video-editing software. There are many video-editing software packages available for free, so this isn’t an extra cost that you would need to worry about.
This full-day course will give everyone attending the chance to shoot a number of time-lapse sequences. We will then go through the process of combining all the individual images shot for the sequence into a video clip.
There are a number of considerations to take into account when shooting a time-lapse sequence. How many images will be needed? How long does the interval need to be between shots? How long should the duration of the time-lapse be? Plus, of course the normal technical considerations such as exposure, depth of field, resolution, focusing and composition. We will cover all these issues during the course.
A time-lapse photography sequence can be shot anywhere. All you need is movement. You might want to shoot the stars at night, moving across the heavens, the tide rising and falling, or a sunrise or sunset. This course is held in our wonderful capital city of London because there is movement to capture on every bridge, road and street corner. If shooting more natural time-lapses is your preference, then all the skills you learn on this course are fully transferrable, so when it comes to shooting a time-lapse sequence of clouds skudding across the sky, wherever you may be, you’ll know how to do it.
